TYRE SAFETY AND WINTER CONDITIONS
Updated 27.11.2021
CAR TYRES, ARE YOUR TYRES SAFE?
Cars are by far the most common vehicles on Britain’s roads so it’s no surprise they are involved in the highest number of tyre-related incidents. Simple maintenance can help avoid a large proportion of these incidents and keep drivers and other road users safer. Please watch the video in the link below for some useful tips c/o TyreSafe.org Nov 2021
CHECK YOUR CAR TYRE PRESSURE
Correct tyre pressure is vital to your safety on the road. Under-inflated tyres affect handling and grip, potentially causing irregular or unpredictable vehicle behaviour. They are also much more likely to suffer from a dangerous sudden rapid deflation, especially on high-speed motorway journeys. By keeping your tyres at their optimum pressure, your running costs are also reduced. Under-inflated tyres require a bigger force to make them turn, so your car uses more fuel. Additionally, tyres which are not set to their correct pressure wear out more quickly. So, to benefit from lower fuel bills, longer tyre life, increased safety and reduced CO2 emissions, make sure you check your tyre pressures at least once a month and before a long journey. c/o TyreSafety.org 23.07.21

Hazardous Conditions
While snow and ice present the most obvious hazard to motorists, most drivers change their driving style to suit these conditions. However, cold, damp roads are visually no different to wet conditions in the warmer months and drivers tend not to adjust their driving style. A tyre’s performance though, is significantly reduced by this combination of conditions, making cold damp roads one of the highest safety risks to drivers.
Tyre Safety & Winter Conditions
Most drivers know that snow and ice can dramatically affect their safety on the road. Steering, acceleration and braking are more difficult as normal car tyres have less grip in these conditions. However, it is not just these extreme wintry conditions which can reduce your safety on the road. Even cold, damp roads can dramatically affect the performance of your car tyres, leading to an increased accident risk.
Thankfully though, tyre manufacturers have developed a range of car tyres which are specifically designed to operate in these conditions, delivering improved safety throughout the entire winter period.
Happy Halloween
Correct tyre care, maintenance and selection can greatly enhance your safety on the road this winter. Please think about the condition of your car tyres. Ensure your car tyres are properly inflated and checked at least once a month and before any long journeys. Check the condition of your car tyres by looking for any lumps, bulges or cracks and remove any objects embedded in the tread. When checking the tread, pressures and condition, don't forget the spare. Consider fitting winter weather tyres for the whole winter period. At temperatures below 7 degrees C, they provide much better safety and grip.
